2010 NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The brackets are out:
103: Joe Barbato opens against Isaiah Perry of Massena HS, section 10. If Joe can advance he has the winner of number 1 seed, Mike Soria of Kings Park, section 11 or TJ Kreider, Cornwall HS, section 9.
145: Nick Fitzmaurice opens against Joe Halkias, Townsend Harris, PSAL section 12, NYC. If Nick advances he has either Lance Wade, Islip HS, section 11 or Mike Vespa, Monroe Woodbury, section 9.
171: Joseph Kavanagh has the number 2 seed and opens vs Troy Benjamin, Mexico HS, section 3 ( Joe has wrestled Troy 2 times and won ). If Joe advances he will wrestle Chad Obzud, Lansinburg, section 2 or Sean Prell, Warwick HS, section 9.
189: Matt Loew opens against Adam Malone, Massena HS section 10. If Matt wins he faces either Paul Alessandrini, St. Anthony’s HS, or Jake Smith, Smithtown HS, section 11. On a good note, Matt has wrestled both opponents and defeated them in the past. Hopefully this is a good advantage.
THE WRESTLER – THE CHAMPION
No one is born a champion. Every champion must pay the price, and the price is never small. It is the investment in one’s future that builds the inner strength of the champion. The investment of time, sweat, effort, sore muscles, bruised egos, frustration, more sweat, exhaustion and at sometimes even tears. While others sit idle and enjoy short-term pleasures, the champion is hard at work, focused on the future.
Wrestling has many champions. They are not just the first place winners, for it is not the victory that makes the champion – it is the investment. The greater the investment, the greater the champion.
Wrestling is the sport of champions.
