Jesse Vanorden
3rd place New York State
Jesse finishes 3rd at the State Championships for the second consecutive season. Finishing 3rd at this tournament can be tougher to navigate mentally in some cases than winning the championship. Picking yourself up and getting the next best thing by winning two bouts (against high level competition nonetheless) shows a crazy amount of fortitude.
We are all so proud of Jesse. He’s been a key varsity contributor since his 7th grade season. What an incredible career he’s had. Another legend of the program.

HOT OF THE PRESS:
News has just dropped that the Varsity Wantagh Wrestling has qualified for the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award! Earning this recognition as a team shows the program’s commitment to excellence not only on the mat but most importantly in the classroom as well. This is a tremendous accomplishment for the program.
ABOUT THE NYSPHSAA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD:
At the end of each sports season, the NYSPHSAA honors those teams and individuals that excel in the
classroom. Those student-athletes, teams, and schools work very hard throughout the year and deserve
to be recognized for their academic success.
To receive team recognition with a certificate, the team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster must be
greater than or equal to 90.00. Those students with a 90 or above will receive recognition with official NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete pins.
